Immigrants Settlement & Adaptation Program
Immigrants Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP) is designed to promote and deliver direct settlement services and outreach to newcomers and recent arrivals as immigrants and refugees in Ontario.AAO ISAP services have focused on Asian, South Asian, South-East Asian and West Asian newcomers and recent arrivals (Afghan, Pakistani, Iranian Indian, and Chinese immigrants) who are in need of settlement initial needs and adaptation services in Toronto and surrounding areas.
PURPOSE
AAO ISAP aims to provide easy access to quality social and community services with professionalism and integrity to newcomers and new immigrants and refugees in their successful integration and establishment in Canadian society.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
Following are some of the services provided to newcomers in Greater Toronto Area
NEEDS ASSESSMENT
AAO settlement workers assess the needs of the newcomers and immigrant refugees for better integration and adaptation in community. Based on individual client needs appropriate settlement and integration services are provide.
INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION SESSIONS
AAO-ISAP provides weekly sessions at its facility and out of public facilities. These useful guidance and information to clients are on Resettlement Assistance Program, Housing, Health, Education, Employment, Family Life, Life in Canada, and Services in the Community.
INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION
Assist newcomers who face various barriers in their day to day living prior to learning English. Assisting/Advocating on behalf of the newcomers for the available services. Providing interpretation on sites or via telephone. Providing translation of documents such as school, medical, identities, driver’s licenses and other related documents.
COUNSELLING
Providing advice and support to newcomers on issues related to settlement one to one or group basis. Assisting newcomers in short term resolution for the difficulties regarding their settlement. Assessing and identify client’s needs. Clients in need of in-depth counselling such as mental health, family or health related issues would be referred to relevant agencies.
FILLING OUT FORMS
Filling out SIN application, OHIP, IFH, Housing, Child Tax and PR Card
REFERRAL SERVICES
Link newcomers for the specific settlement needs to the available resources such as Job Search Workshop, Employment, Enhanced Language Training Programs, LINC and ESL
