AAO Annual General Meeting 2009-2010 Report

The Afghan Association of Ontario (AAO) held it's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 28th, 2010 at our newly renovated cultural hall located at 29 Pemican court, Toronto. This year also marked the election of AAO's president and nine board members. The election was held from 9 am – 5 pm also at the AAO Cultural Hall with Dr. Hosain Danishwar being elected by an overwhelming majority of the voters.
The AGM began at 6 pm with the recitation of few verses from the holy Qur'an and MC-ed by Mr. Dost Yar, AAO Board Member. The AGM proceeded with the following items:
- The agenda was approved as circulated.
- The minutes of the 2009 Annual General Meeting was approved as presented
- Dr. Hosain Danishwar, AAO President, provided a general report on the organization’s achievements over the past year.
- Ibrahimjan Abdail, Treasurer, presented 2009-2010 Financial Statements.
- Omar Hewadyar, Head of Internal Audit Committee, stated that AAO has received an audit for the 2009-2010 and all financial records and bank statements have been authenticated.
- Financial statements for the fiscal year ending March 31st 2009 were approved as circulated.
- Saber Fermand, AAO Vice-President External Affairs, reported and highlighted AAO's achievements over the past year with the activities reported being accepted as presented.
- Roshan Khadem, Chair of the Election Supervisory Committee, announced the results of the Election; Dr. Hosain Danishwar elected as president with nine (9) new board members.
- Announcement of the five (5) member Election Supervisory Committee; two (2) members appointed from the board and three (3) members appointed by majority vote.
- Announcement of the three (3) member Internal Audit committee appointed by majority vote.
- In appreciation of volunteer services, Dr. Danishwar awarded certificates of appreciation to those individuals who had volunteered their time and services to the AAO in the past year.
The meeting was adjourned at 8 pm and followed by entertainment by a famous Afghan folklore singer.
